About Kristin

Kristin Ettinger

A deepening practice of yoga in the 2000s led me to become a certified instructor in 2007, with a desire to help people in the same way the practice had helped me—to feel more grounded and content in mind/body and life. I went on to train at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Western Massachusetts for my professional-level yoga certification in 2012-13, then volunteered and continued working there for three years. I continue to assist in training new yoga teachers through the Kripalu School of Yoga.

I came to practice somatic expressive therapy in a similar way—I needed it for myself. In the midst of a difficult life transition, I landed at a SomaSoul workshop with Dan Leven, entitled “Moving Your Body’s Story.” Using expressive and contemplative modalities such as drawing, writing, dance, and body-centered awareness felt like a revelation, a way to access parts of my psyche that had not been available before. Using these creative methods, I realized my body had a lot to say!

I’ve pursued further study in somatic expressive therapy at the Leven Institute for Expressive Movement, and in body-centered psychotherapy and subtle energy healing at the Hartford Family Institute. In addition to teaching yoga and seeing clients for somatic expressive therapy, I also facilitate a rich, inclusive community movement experience of yoga/dance called Shake Your Soul, which includes gentle, meditative warm-ups, a simple movement repertoire, and a variety of fun opportunities for creative expression and connection with others.

Bringing movement-oriented, expressive and contemplative practices together, I offer you my compassion and open heart along with a creative collection of tools and techniques to help you feel more embodied and at peace with yourself and your life.
